we begin with the latest developments in the mass shooting in illinois. six killed, 38 injured when a gunman opened fire at a fourth of july parade in highland park. that is an affluent suburb of chicago. this video shows a band playing as people begin to run. other footage caught the jarring sound of gunfire. [ gunfire ] imagine the shock and confusion. maybe it was fireworks, they could rightly think. no, those were gunshots. the series of shots you heard followed by a second round of shooting that lasted about 7 seconds. the gunman was on a rooftop with a high-powered rifle. parade-goers scattering in all directions once they realized what was happening. you see a band running there. the crowd left behind chairs, toys, baby strollers, and blankets. here s one witness describing that scene. a few minutes into the parade started, like, the marching band had just passed, i heard a subsequent pop, pop, pop, all in quick succession. i thought to myself, that s not ....

backdrop for movies like home alone and ferris buhler s day off. police say a gunman fired on people along the parade route from a rooftop. a barrage of bullets just after 10:00 a.m., causing spec to it tors, mostly families with children, both young and old, to scatter. right now officials say the victims range from 8 to 85 years old. five adults died at the scene, a sixth person later passed away at the hospital. witnesses describing chaos where strollers and belongings lay scattered on the streets that have become a crime scene. i picked up my kids and ran again, i put them in a garbage dumpster, and then i ran back to look for my partner and her daughter, and i saw people shot on the ground. all of a sudden, there was a stampede of people coming, and then i realized it was gunshots. i literally thought to myself, this is how it s going to end. we hope to learn more about a man who they say has not been charged but is a person of interest. within eight hours ....

many states will. at least half a dozen already are, as of yesterday. now the rule has been overturned, 26 states are certainly to ban abortion in the coming days and months according to the institute. it advocates for reproductive rights. they have so-called trigger bans on the books. they are laws designed to automatically ban abortion if roe were to be overturned. officials and seven of those states, missouri, south dakota, louisiana, kentucky, oklahoma, utah, and arkansas, have already activated these bands. chief justice john roberts was the only conservative justice that disagreed with the court s decision. he disagreed. he ruled in favor of upholding mississippi s 50-week abortion ban. roberts did not vote to overturn roe entirely. however, all three justices appointed by the now twice impeached president now voted to overturn. roe nancy pelosi singled him out in her remarks yesterday. take a listen. how about those justices coming before the senators and sayin ....

restrictive, to prohibit access to drugs that the fda has authorized as safe and effective for women to use. we are also hearing from the justice department on the issue of access to abortion clinics and the fact that it s not legal under the freedom of access to clinic entrances act to block people s physical access to walk into an abortion clinic. the justice department saying it s going to make sure that that right is protected. as you can see, these are steps around the margins. this is not the biden administration saying we are going to enforce the ability for women across the country to get an abortion. that s something that only congress can do. that s why we expect a key element of what president biden will have to say to be about the election and making sure to elect politicians who will ensure a woman s right to choose in future. thanks to you, josh. this is andrea mitchell reports with our continuing breaking news coverage of the supreme court s decision ....
