SIR – I have been reading with some amusement the various comments on the Conservatives’ abysmal showing at the local elections (report, May 5).
SIR – The new five-point plan to control immigration (“Migrant curbs to cut arrivals by quarter”, report, December 5) is all very well, but why wait until the spring to implement it?
SIR – Wes Streeting, the shadow health secretary, has been unveiling Labour’s plans to fix the NHS (report, December 2). They sound plausible enough – except for one detail.
SIR – Apart from five years in the Royal Air Force in the Second World War, I worked from 1938 to 1982 in the Civil Service, first at the Inland Revenue and then in the old Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance, starting as a clerk and ending as a senior manager.
SIR – The parliamentary Conservative Party and its followers should be careful.
