Two Jews, three definitions: New documents challenge mainstream view of antisemitism

Last month, two new definitions of antisemitism – The Nexus Document and the Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism (JDA) – sought to challenge the widely-accepted International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism. Both documents focus on the area that is increasingly dividing global Jewry: the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its relationship to antisemitism.
The IHRA working definition has been adopted by governments and institutions the world over, including the U.S. State Department and the British Labour Party, as a way to define the manifestations of hate against Jewish people. It is comprised of a core text, stating: “Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews.
