Does Australia's 'preferred' status for 2032 Olympics affect Utah's hopes for another Games?

SALT LAKE CITY — International Olympic Committee leaders named Brisbane, Australia, its preferred bid for the 2032 Summer Games this week, but there was no talk about Salt Lake City or other places pursuing the Winter Games in 2030.
"I would like to emphasize that this recommendation and this decision is not a decision against anybody," IOC President Thomas Bach said during a virtual news conference held after Wednesday's monthly executive committee meeting. "This is just a decision in favor of one interested party at this moment in time."
Bach said there was no report at the meeting on future Winter Olympics hosts.

German officials have expressed concern over the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) new candidature process, as the decision to install Brisbane as the preferred bidder for the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics has effectively ended the Rhine-Ruhr proposal to host the Games.
The IOC announced on Wednesday (February 24) that it would open exclusive negotiations with Australian officials as part of a targeted dialogue phase.
This followed the IOC Executive Board's decision to approve a recommendation from the Future Host Summer Commission.
insidethegames had earlier exclusively revealed that Brisbane would be installed as the IOC's non-binding preferred bidder.

Australian Olympic chief John Coates says Brisbane's bid to host the 2032 Olympic Games is as good as a done deal after it was awarded exclusive negotiation rights.
The Olympics and Paralympics are set to return to Australia after Brisbane, and the state of Queensland, was installed as the preferred bidder for the event by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at an executive committee meeting.
Numerous other cities including Budapest, Istanbul and Doha had previously flagged interest in hosting the 2032 Games.
But the Australian bid has long been considered the favourite and is now the sole candidate as part of a new decision-making system designed to avoid cities unlikely of winning the rights wasting money on their bids.

Brisbanehas been chosen as the preferred candidate by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the 2032 Olympic Games.
The IOC will start exclusive negotiations, or the “targeted dialogue” stage, with Australian officials over hosting the games following the Future Host Summer Commission’s recommendation.
Chair of the commission, Kristin Kloster Aasen, advised on Wednesday that the Queensland government only needed to submit the documents and the required guarantees before the commission was able to formally recommend Brisbane as the 2032 Olympic host.
Although Aasen said that the bid was not the winner just yet, the plan proposed by Brisbane, Australia’s high level of hosting experience and strong support for the bid from government officials were the main reasons for the committee’s recommendation.
