The Fairfield National Bank and the Wayne County Farm Bureau are excited to bring back the Farm Finance Forum on Friday, February 3. The forum will feature a series of well-known speakers that will cover a variety of topics related to financial matters on the farm. Keynoting the event this year is Eric Snodgrass, Principal Atmospheric Scientist for Nutrien Ag Solutions. Snodgrass' popularity amongst farmers stems from his regular ag weather updates on YouTube. On Tuesday at approximately 7:15 a.m. Wayne County responded to the scene of an accident on IL Rt. 45. 41-year-old Kristin Morris was traveling north on IL Rt. 45 when she struck a deer in the roadway. Over $1500 worth of damage to the vehicle was reported, and had to be towed. There were no injuries reported at the scene. 44 year old Dori Barnes of Cisne, pleaded guilty in Wayne County court to a charge of Retail Theft, a class A Misdemeanor. Barnes was sentenced to one year of probation, credited for two days served, and ordered to pay $1,689 in fines and costs. The Annual Dinner Meeting of The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for Monday, March 13, 2023. During the meeting, the Business of the Year and Community Service Award will be presented. Nominations for recipients of these awards are being accepted at the Chamber office through Tuesday, January 31, 2023. Those students who are part of the Class of 2024, and the Class of 2026, will register on January 23 & 25. Class of 2025 registration will be held on January 27. Students who will graduate as part of the Class of 2027 will be registered the week of January 30. 8th Grade Welcome Night will be held on Wednesday, February 15 at 6:00 p.m. in the FCHS East Gymnasium. Cleanup is underway after tornadoes hit Central Illinois. Multiple funnel clouds touched down yesterday. Strong winds damaged the old Pla-Mor Lanes bowling alley in Decatur and multiple power lines were down near 22nd St and East Garfield. A grain bin was also damaged on Highway 51 near Maroa. There is no word of any injuries. Illinois officials are highlighting new laws impacting employers and employees. Along with an increase in minimum wage, unpaid leave rights are being expanded for employees. The amended One Day Rest in Seven Act gives workers the right to a day of rest every workweek and breaks for meals or rest during daily work shifts. Also, an amendment to the Employee Sick Leave Act mandates that employers who provide sick leave benefits must allow employees to take leave in the event of a family member illness on the same conditions which the employee can take leave for their own illness. Central Illinois is coming off a record breaking day of warm weather. The National Weather Service says Springfield, Lincoln, Decatur, and Champaign all set record highs for January 3rd. Temps are expected to drop back down today. A Rockford native is showing off his skills on the game show "Jeopardy!" Lloyd Sy took over as champion after winning yesterday's show. He is just months away from earning his PhD in English literature from the University of Virginia. He studied English and computer science at Brown University after graduating from Auburn High School graduate in 2012.
