The Case Against Drafting a RB in the 1st Round

The Case Against Drafting a RB in the 1st Round

Fellow Steelers fans, this took me a bit longer to write than I expected, but for those who have been annoyed by my incessant negativity regarding a first round RB, I figured I owed you an explanation. Admittedly, I get the reasoning for wanting a first round RB since our running attack was probably the worst in the NFL last year (even if it wasn’t, technically, statistically). All of us realize that the running game needs to be fixed; however, we differ in how we should go about fixing said problem. For instance, I believe that it would be wiser to invest in a great O-line prospect than it would be to get a star RB in round 1. While I typically disagree with PFF’s analysis, I do think they recently did a good job of further explaining my thoughts on fixing the O-line as opposed to grabbing a shiny new RB. Video. If you decided not to watch, I’ll try and argue in favor or my position a few other ways, starting with a historical analysis.

Triple Mock Draft Time

Triple Mock Draft Time
Tuesday Draft Day!
Alright gang this is my first shot at a mock draft this off season. Full disclosure: 1) I used walk the mock but tried really hard to avoid picks that, through research, I deemed unrealistic and 2) my personal preferences played a role in avoiding any QB not named Zac Wilson or Trevor Lawrence and I refuse to draft a position in round 1 where I get a shelf life of 5-7 years (RB’s), and 3) I tried to draft like Pitt, with a healthy balance of Offensive and Defensive players. I relied on multiple websites for information, but predominately on Steelers Depot Big Board. I also made three separate drafts based on top tier players that were available in each round. Also, no trades since Pitt doesn't typically and I don't blame them. This draft will go through the first four rounds (picks 24-55-87-128-140) since everything after that is, essentially, a crap-shoot.
