Charlotte Jean Smith, 82, of Union City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence in Battle Creek.
Following cremation, she will be memorialized at a later date, with private burial at North Sherwood Cemetery. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation of Union City.
Char was born September 11, 1938 in Charlotte, Michigan to Garland and Marvel (Bowen) Grinage. She attended Hastings High School, a member of the Class of 1956. Char was married to Thomas Vaccaro and later to John Smith, but both unions ended in divorce. Char worked as a waitress for 25 years in Battle Creek, Union City and Coldwater, as well as Kalkaska, where she owned the Country Boy Bar. In later years she worked at the B Drive Meijer in Battle Creek.     Char enjoyed spending time with family, especially grand- and great-grandchildren. She liked attending her annual family reunions. James William LaFerney
James William LaFerney, Jr., 64, of Coldwater Michigan, lost his lifelong struggle with Multiple Sclerosis and his battle against cancer December 10, 2020. He died in his home surrounded by his loving family.
James was born on October 13, 1956 in Ypsilanti, Michigan to James and Yvonne (Perry) LaFerney. He grew up in Michigan and graduated from Belleville High School in 1975. He lived most of his adult life in New Madrid Missouri where he had many friends and family. He returned to Michigan in 2013 where he met the love of his life Janice Baughey.
James had a hilarious sense of humor and was quite a jokester, but was best known for his infectious laugh. He enjoyed music and hunting, especially deer camp with the guys, and spending time at the family’s lake house. ....

Alice Louise Kempton, 84, formerly of Tekonsha, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Birch Meadows AFC in Three Rivers.
A private family graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Tekonsha, with her son, Pastor Douglas Kempton, of Grace Community Church in Detroit, officiating. A public celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2021. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation of Union City.
Alice was born March 12, 1936 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Clinton “Mike” and Leora (Green) Seadorf. After graduating in 1953 from Vicksburg High School, she married Vernon Kempton on November 7, 1953 in Vicksburg. He survives. The couple made their home in the Tekonsha/Homer area until moving to South Florida from 1963-1974, at which time they returned to Tekonsha. Alice spent many years as a devoted mother and homemaker. Ronald Harry Frambes, 88, of Coldwater, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at his home. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at a later date. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation of Union City.
Ron was born April 30, 1932 in Millville, New Jersey to Howard and Berniece (Conover) Frambes. He graduated from Bridgeton High School in New Jersey. He enlisted in the U.S. Army for two years and was inducted at Camp Kilmer in New Jersey, and served in Germany. In 1952 he moved to Angola, Indiana and attended what was then Tri-State College, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. On July 19, 1953, he married the former Irene M. Michael in Coldwater. She survives. ....
