Reasoning behind experimental booster shots

Studies have shown a reduction in the efficacy of vaccines with newer variants. As the world moves towards boosters doses, the efficacy of the COVID vaccines is becoming a concern. According to researchers from the University of Oxford, UK, and the country’s Office for National Statistics, Pfizer/BioNTechCOVID-19 vaccine efficacy fell to 90 per cent, 85 per cent, and 78 per cent after 30, 60, and 90 days, respectively, and AstraZeneca vaccine efficacy dropped to 61 per cent by 90 days with the Delta variant. There are ongoing studies for booster doses but certain governments and vaccine manufactures have advocated for booster doses. Booster doses can become a burden for nations when some are struggling to obtain vaccines for first and second doses.

Modi regime lost its credibility amid COVID-19 Crises, Indian Civil Society writes Open Letter to 74th World Health Assembly

The Indian Civil Society has lambasted the Narendra Modi-led New Delhi regime for its criminal negligence amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, arguing that the Indian government has lost its credibility to represent the people of India, and called for strong global political commitment to address the challenges in public health care.

Bangladesh needs a clear strategy for GSP+

This February, Bangladesh received the endorsement of the United Nations Committee for Development Policy (UNCDP) regarding its final timeline for exiting the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) group. Bangladesh is now scheduled to leave the LDC category in 2026.
As we leave the group, Bangladesh will miss out on the LDC -specific preferences and privileges afforded by its international development partners. The most specific and significant loss will be duty-free and quota-free (DFQF) market access for the country's export items.
This is a situation that all Bangladesh exporters will be watching most closely. The EU (along with the huge UK) market currently accounts for about 62 percent of apparel exports and nearly 56 percent of all exports from Bangladesh. Losing these huge trading benefits overnight represents a serious risk for Bangladesh's export competitiveness. Logically, addressing DFQF loss-related fallouts—particularly in the EU market—must be a core pillar of Bangladesh's LDC graduation (transition) strategy.

First Guide to Help Identify What Works and What Does Not Work in Road Safety

First Guide to Help Identify What Works and What Does Not Work in Road Safety
Washington D.C. (March 15, 2021) – The World Bank’s Global Road Safety Facility (GRSF) launched today the Guide for Road Safety Interventions: Evidence of What Works and What Does Not Work. The guide will help road safety practitioners understand that what sometimes appear to be “common-sense” approaches often not deliver the best road safety outcomes. Although some interventions provide benefits, others have very limited or even negative impacts, despite being commonly-and mistakenly-recommended and adopted.
Road crashes result in an estimated 1.35 million deaths and 50 million injuries worldwide per year, with 93 percent of these occurring in Low-Middle Income Countries (LMICs). The scale of the current response to this continuing crisis does not match the size of the problem. In addition, limited road safety resources are often expended on ineffective interventions. The guide aims to address this.
