Mr. Thornberry mentioned about ack which situation reform and making sure the system works better. I thank the chairman who has taken the lead on this issue. I think we have made significant improvements while acknowledging that we still have a long way to go to get the efficiency out of the pentagon budget. I think this bill does a great job supporting the troops and their families. Its basically the case we recruit a Service Member but you retain the family, and that means you have to provide for them. We support the 2. 5 pay raise in this bill and support the troops and their families in many different ways. This is a very good product. I also want to say, and i want to thank representative langevin on this issue. This bill states that Climate Change is a National Security threat. We make that the policy of the United States congress to acknowledge Climate Change and the impact that its going to have on our National Security. And representative langevin was tireless in making sure t

What i will be doing is ill be offering the amendment and then withdrawing it because i do not have at the end to come because they do not have the requisite waiver. However come having said that, i would like to present the animate and withdraw it at the conclusion. So 171 seeks basically a specific war memorial at pearl harbor hawaii. Mr. Chair, this is a very unique situation in that there is a rear admiral retired livening of lloyd who served in world war ii as a submarine officer aboard the uss under the command of John S Mccain junior, father of john mccain the third. And he advocated for many years the creation of the pacific war memorial at pearl harbor. In hi
On their side, of course. At one level, you might worry that the words will run out, and missiles will take their place. But you might ask why its just words, and not weapons yet . Could it be that both sides know their own limitations in any form of Military Conflict . Our diplomatic editor mark urban has been working through the logic. American carriers exercising off korea. But these pictures were taken in may, and none of them are there now. The president seems out of sync with his military and his top diplomats. Today, he emphasised the defensive nature of us precautions. I think what the president was reaffirming his that the United States has the capability to fully defend itself from any attack and defend our allies. And we will do so. The American People should sleep well at night. Tillerson is in tune with generations of american statesman who stuck to Teddy Roosevelts maxim, speak softly and carry a big stick. Of betsy devos. We know at least two republican senators intend to vote against the nominee, meaning that Vice President mike pence would need to come to capitol hill to cast the tiebreaking vote and that would be the first time that Vice President broke a tie in a cabinet confirmation. President trump tweeted about the devos nomination earlier today saying, senate dems protest keep the failed status quo. Betsy devos is a reformer. Committee will come to order. Last week, the Committee Held classified and unclassified sessions on the state of the world or more accurately, the state of the world environment in which the American Military must operate and u. S. National security must be protected. I was struck by the essential point general petraeus made that we face many threats and can overcome any of them except perhaps what we do to ourselves. Today, we turn to the state of the u. S. Military. I continue to be concerned and sometimes even disturbed by evidence that is accumulating on the damage inflicted upon our military in recent years and the stresses our forces are under. That damage comes from a variety of factors including budget cuts of 20 , continuing resolutions, the failure to recognize or at least admit and then address mounting readiness problems as well as the shrinking size of the force while keeping the tempo of operations high. There is certainly plenty of blame to go around between both parties
