BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. (WAVE) - On Easter Sunday, WAVE 3 News checked back in with a church that drew statewide criticism for not closing doors during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
You may remember Maryville Baptist Church and Pastor Dr. Jack Roberts.
“I have a copy both of the US Constitution and the constitution of the state of Kentucky,” Pastor Jack Robert of Maryville Baptist Church said. “They both say what [Governor Andy Beshear] is doing is illegal.”

As the nation’s capital braces for its second impeachment trial in just over a year and far-flung states clash over COVID-19 restrictions, Kentucky’s governor faces an impeachment probe by state legislators for what his critics say were overly strict rules during the pandemic.
With impeachment threatened by foes who say his COVID-19 mandates violated the state and federal constitutions, Gov. Andy Beshear, a Democrat, sued the state Legislature for overriding his veto of two bills that would rein in his power to impose such restrictions.

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky's state treasurer spent Thursday morning testifying to state legislators that Gov. Andy Beshear's executive orders, restricting religious gatherings earlier on in the COVID-19 pandemic, was unconstitutional.
Allison Ball said Beshear abused his power when enforcing executive orders against large gatherings, specifically pointing to state troopers used at Maryville Baptist Church in Bullitt County and at other churches throughout the state where people gathered for services.
