The Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism is distributing $286,351 to eight Western Massachusetts agencies and organizations in a program to bolster the tourism industry amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito said during a streamed announcement that as difficult as the pandemic has been, the inability to enjoy the state’s special character through tourism and visitation has created a new appreciation for what has always been there. ....

The Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism is distributing $286,351 to eight Western Massachusetts agencies and organizations in a program to bolster the tourism industry amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito said during a streamed announcement that as difficult as the pandemic has been, the inability to enjoy the state’s special character through tourism and visitation has created a new appreciation for what has always been there.
“We don’t take anything we have in the Commonwealth for granted. We cherish it, we love it and we want to nurture it,” Polito said. “People are feeling healthier and more comfortable in getting out. The (coronavirus) vaccine is out in full force. We (want to) have our state covered from one end to the other.” ....

“Marketing dollars are so important. We need to reach out and let people know we’re here, and welcome them to be part of our communities,” Connor said after ERC5, the organization she serves as executive director, received a $23,457 grant as part of the Massachusetts Travel and Tourism Recovery Grant Program.
The ERC5 organization (whose acronym stands for East of the River-Five Town Chamber of Commerce) is a collaboration of the chambers of commerce in five towns: East Longmeadow, Hampden, Longmeadow, Ludlow and Hampden. ....

Ohio scraps travel restrictions map; see which states have guidelines


Ohio has axed its weekly COVID-19 travel advisory map this week after months of updates on where Ohioans should and should not travel.
Now state health officials are advising Ohioans to check the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance when making plans.
The map was first released last summer and was based on state coronavirus test positivity rates. Travelers to Ohio from states with a rate of 15% or higher were advised to quarantine for 14 days. The recommendation was not mandatory nor was it enforced.
In Kentucky, officials used similar guidance for travel restrictions but stopped giving updates in December, saying they discourage all out-of-state leisure travel until further notice. ....

Gov. Charlie Baker is traveling to Florida following a death in the family and will return on Monday, his office said.
Baker headed to the Sunshine State on Thursday evening to meet his wife, Lauren, “to attend to family matters,” spokeswoman Sarah Finlaw said. ....
