trump and republicans, while he's seeing this massive support among primary republican voters that base is kept, it's kept let's be real because the republican party has made it their business to court white supremacists, white nationalists, and no one else beyond that. looking at the reality of what happens in a general election, trump is setting himself for yet another loss as monika pointed out. -- because of the reality, even though if he attempts to delay which is his favorite tactic when it comes to court, julie any former prosecution, people are still paying attention, they view the evidence, they're rational thinkers and i'll take that with them into the polls in november. >> matt, quickly, is there any idea or any thought to the idea that even as donald trump goes to court and he's on tv, he goes to campaign and he's on tv, that all of this with the sort of insistence around hammering home these talking points, that

fights have played out over the past couple of years. the house freedom caucus is calling this deal a, quote, total failure. and they're not fooled, by the way, thatpeer johnson was advertising the cost breakdown, as i mentioned earlier. and chip roy also called the deal terrible, saying it gives away levera. but he didn't -- we'll wait and see if we can get any meaningful policy riders out of it. matt rosenle another republican congressman, is disappointed by the microscopic concessions made by democrats in this. but on the senate side, leader mcconnell said that he's encouraged that a deal was reached. the real question is, can speaker johnson keep the house freedom caucus in line and prevent them from blocking this legislation that's going to need bipartisan support? especially with the republicans razor-thin majority. >> that was nbc's e adjuster. thank you so much.

heavily favored, nikki haley is picking up as you said independent voters in new hampshire. the problem for nikki haley, is that she's gonna move to south carolina, where she was governor of and where she lives, where she is 28 points behind because independents can't vote in the republican primary. when you go forward state, after, state were only republicans can vote in the republican primary, there's very little room for her to grow. this race may look like it's competitive at some points after new hampshire, if you look at the states going forward, even if nikki haley somehow surprises people and winds new hampshire, which i think she needs to do, she faces a daunting task -- south carolina. >> matt, my friend, to see desantis as ruthless -- if that's the sick fans i gotta say that trump needs to be

all that is essentially one extended campaign regardless of the formal venue? >> yeah, it doesn't matter to donald trump whether he's in washington, d.c., saying crazy stuff or even iowa saying crazy stuff. he says crazy stuff wherever he is. and the republicans can't get up and repeat the stop no matter where he happens to be. i think with the trials and all that they benefit him to a degree among the republican primary because they actually don't need to meet him and talk to him, if you meet him and talk to him, he drains your eyebrows -- is this what we want to do in the course of this. i agree with everything that's been said, donald trump is toxic to the republican party. but donald trump is not toxic within the republican party, and that's the problem. >> nick pressley, thank you, matt and juanita, stick around so stay with me. coming up after the break, republican hopefuls prepare for yet another presidential debate without donald trump as a former president holds a

the momentum that it's gained over the last few wee in a new calling, washington post jennifer rubin writes, virtually no one expects hale to beat trump in iowa. she therefore must make enough waves, defy expectations as the expectations make her say, to put her head and shoulders above arrivals, if not just them out, establishing her as the only viable alternative to trump. >> back with me, juanita tolliver and matt dowd, matt, desantis told voters today that he plans to stay in the race for the long haul. what are the stakes for him in iowa if he really means that? or could a bad showing issue him an early goodbye? >> i think all of us have watched politics and often no whenever a politician says they're gonna state the long haul they often get off the bus very early. i've seen so many politicians say, i'm in it, i have the money, and it, and five days later they get out of the race.
