It was a couple of years ago when Maria Muldaur was shopping for clothes at a favorite store when she heard “the most beautiful vintage jazz” of the ‘20s and ‘30s playing over the speakers. And though she couldn’t peg the artist, the interest of the woman who’s been called “The First Lady of Roots Music” was piqued immediately.
Imagine her surprise when the shop owner told her that the band was Tuba Skinny, an act made up of young players from New Orleans who had put out a few CDs, but mostly performed on the streets of the Big Easy. Still not convinced about their age, Muldaur insisted the shop owner show her pictures of the group. And so the woman with a 55+ year career singing blues, jazz, and folk (along with the occasional pop hit) was even more intrigued.

Maria Muldaur to join The Garcia Project for a special recreation concert of a classic show from the 1978 “Cats Under The Stars” Jerry Garcia Band tour. Maria Muldaur (vocals) will be singing with The Garcia Project’s Kat Walkerson, Mik Bondy (guitar), Dan Crea (bass guitar) and Caroline Killoh (piano) with Greg Anton on drums.

The Garcia Project on May 28, 2021 at The Stadium Theatre in Woonsocket, RI for one special night to celebrate the 43rd Anniversary of the Jerry Garcia Band’s “Cats Under The Stars” tour from 1978. Jerry Garcia has been quoted as saying that “Cats Under The Stars” was his favorite album and the tour was filled with great songs and energy.

More than a year into the pandemic, most venues for live music and theater remain closed in the region, but a few are slowly and tentatively reopening with the advent of spring and continued loosening of government restrictions. Among these is downtown’s Hamilton Live, with a limited run of limited-capacity, in-person concerts as well as classic movie screenings, accompanied by limited dinner and drink service.
Tickets for all upcoming events are only available for purchase by table, with seatings for two, four, and six spread out in the venue — just 11 tables per concert, 19 per movie screening — and all with the proviso: “Parties may not exceed the size of the purchased table. No more than one table per party.” Unless otherwise noted, all events are at 7 p.m., with doors and food and drink service starting at 6 p.m.

The Garcia Project will perform two shows of acoustic music as Acoustically Speaking.
Kat and Mik are founding members of The Garcia Project, a nationally touring tribute to classic Jerry Garcia Band, for over 10 years. For this show, they will perform a special intimate acoustic set of some of our favorite songs from Jerry Garcia, The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, The Beatles and more.
They recently finished a stunning new Jerry Garcia tribute album with musical friends Maria Muldaur, Peter Rowan, Jacklyn LaBranch and others. It is called “Spirit: a loving tribute to Jerry Garcia and the spiritual songs he performed”. The album will be available for purchase at the show.
