CSPAN3 Iran Hostage Crisis - 40 Years Later July 13, 2024

Stormed the u. S. Embassy and the culmination of worsening relationships between the wake of the iranian revolution in the wake of 1979. Even though the crisis ended with the release of the hostages on january 20, 1981 after an incredible ordeal that lasted some 444 days, it has had a lasting influence on the relationship between the two countries. Images of fanaticized and bushing the American Flag traumatized a nation and the presidency. They live on in popular consciousness here with such movies as the 2012 movie argo and continue to weigh on the public discourse. Here today we want to explore the Lasting Impact of the hostage crisis a bit further and we have convened a panel of distinguished experts which will be moderated by my colleague. Good morning. This hearing on the subcommittee on readiness and management support will come to order. Today this subcommittee meets to receive the testimony from deputy secretary of defense David Norquist concerning the department of defense 2018 and 2019 audits. Last year when he was serving as the dod comptroller, secretary norquist completed the first dod audit ever. Soon thereafter secretary norquist was nominated and then confirm as deputy secretary of defense, withh Overwhelming Senate support from both sides of the aisle. He is a welcome wealth of knowledge on these issues and i thank you for being here today.
