Worker Exploitation, A Troubling Reality, Despite Political ‘May Day’ Shows! Without workers, no civilisation could be built!”― Mehmet Murat ildan Most official holidays in our calendar commemorate national or religious events. Though national holidays are too often treated as cheap rationales for carefree days off, most still involve some sort of salute — however superficial — to the particular occasion’s ostensible purpose. Independence Day for example is one such day. So is the historically significant ‘the May day’ (or Labour Day as it is called in US) which should be a...

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago 1918–2008 Anderson’s tale about Emperors’ new clothes involves a vain king who was preoccupied with his appearance and his wardrobe. The king decided to have a suit of clothes made from the fabric in order to test which of his courtiers was unfit for office. The popular show attracted much social media traction. Innumerable social media in Sinhala not only complimented her for her superb knowledge in history and her command of the Sinhala language, she was also admired for bringing hope in an otherwise gloo...

Capitol Hill Shame, Narcissistic Trump Legacy & Arrogant ‘American Exceptionalism’!  “ Every nation in every region now has a decision to make: Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists.” – President George W. Bush ( September 2001) On Wednesday 6 January, 2021, America’s chickens came home to roost. The violent drama which unfolded in Capitol Hill was utterly shameful. It buried six foot under, even the atom of credibility left of the oft boasted ideals of US democracy, at the end of the vicious Trump era in office. Television cameras broadcast images of protester...
