According to health officials, the patient was "severely immunocompromised" and suffered from "various severe ailments" in addition to the virus at the time of his death.
This comes as more than 35,000 cases of monkeypox have been reported worldwide across more than 92 countries and 12 deaths have been attributed to the disease.
Researchers have found that the smallpox vaccine may not provide permanent protection from monkeypox.
