It seems odd to label the Golden Globe-nominated “Two of Us” revolutionary this late into the 21st century. But sadly that’s where we are when it comes to society’s prevailing view of same-sex lovers pushing 70. Heck, many feel the same about heterosexuals of the same age. So what gives? Are people of a certain age supposed to cage their lust when they turn gray? With subtle and profound beauty, director Filippo Meneghetti begs to differ in presenting longtime lovers in Nina (Barbara Sukow) and Madeleine (Martine Chevalier) encountering a pivotal juncture in which their otherwise blissful existence is tested by family, sickness and tinges of ageism. A stroke was not part of their dream of leaving Moselle and coming out of the closet in the city where they met decades ago, Rome. But as the old saying goes, if you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans. ....
