Natick neighbors accuse marijuana applicant of 'manipulative' action

NATICK — A war of words has erupted between a resident and a local liquor store.
“It’s really manipulative,” said Martha Paynter, referring to an action taken by Nine East Wine Emporium, located on 6 Worcester St. (Rte. 9), near the Wellesley line.
“That’s not true. There’s no way we’re being manipulative,” said Debbie Otey, wine manager at Nine East.
The dispute centers on an effort by Nine East to convert its liquor store into a retail marijuana business. Otey said the change is necessary due to increased competition from other liquor stores nearby.
Some residents who live near the Wellesley line don’t want retail marijuana near their homes. They have said such a business would hurt property values and bring increased traffic, noise and loitering.

Two Massachusetts residents were arrested by FBI agents Tuesday and charged in connection with the riot at the U.S. Capitol earlier this month.
Suzanne Ianni, 59, of Natick, and Mark Sahady, 46, of Malden, were both charged with disorderly conduct and knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, federal authorities said. Both appeared in Boston federal court Tuesday afternoon.

NATICK, MA — The Natick Select Board on Wednesday sharply condemned the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot, but also made it clear that no town official has the power depose an elected Natick Town Meeting member photographed inside the Capitol during the riot.
The Select Board passed two separate statements on the Capitol riot at its Wednesday meeting: one covering the public health implications of residents who participated in the Jan. 6 events, and a second criticizing the event and the deaths that occurred.
