Henry, a Dog's Life in Maine - The Lincoln County News

Before I start, I have to say that as soon as mom hit the send button on last month’s column Brody got into a pineapple upside down cake that mom had made. She had it pushed back on the counter, but I guess not far back enough because Brody, aka The Brodster, aka Counter Surfer Extraordinaire, was able to scarf down at least the first half of the top of the upside-down cake, which in itself sounds odd, but I don’t bake, so I can’t really say. It’s a digit thing.

Wanted: Citizen scientists to count moose for annual Moose Day

Do you like moose? Do you have some time the morning of March 6 to get out and count them?
The Jackson Hole Wildlife Foundation is looking for volunteers for Moose Day and will host a Nature Mapping training and a Moose ID Clinic to prep you.
Moose Day is an annual census sponsored each winter by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, the Bridger-Teton National Forest and Nature Mapping Jackson Hole. The tallies help wildlife managers monitor Alces alces population trends over time.
Budget constraints are limiting Game and Fish's aerial surveys this year, so the on-the-ground effort is extra important, the foundation said.

Raynes, 96, lived a life of science, shared a love of nature

Longtime Jackson resident Bertram “Bert” Chester Raynes died Jan. 1 at his home surrounded by friends and caregivers. The following was written by Franz Camenzind and provided by his friends, even though Raynes would have shunned such attention.
Raynes, a self-taught naturalist, bird enthusiast, author and Jackson Hole News&Guide columnist, was born March 12, 1924, in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he spent most of his childhood. His parents, Morris Raynes and Celia (Mukashey), were immigrants from Poland and Russia, respectively. He jokingly referred to himself as a “Jersey Boy,” but his heart and soul were at home in Jackson Hole, where he spent the last half of his life. Once, when asked of his heritage, his reply was succinct: “European horse thieves.”
