Barely 48 hours before leaving office, the Cross River State governor, Sen. Benedict Ayade, commissioned the 10.8km Tinapa junction to Odukpani junction dual carriageway and the spaghetti flyover at Odukpani junction. The flyover is expected to address the perennial gridlock experienced by motorists and commuters on the ever-busy Odukpani junction. The junction is the major entry point into Calabar from the central and northern parts of the state and other states.

Grace Ebit, a farmer in Ibogo, Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State, recalls her childhood with nostalgia. After her father lost his job in the mid-1960s, she dropped out of school and the family struggled to get food. Her distraught father began to grow cassava and processed garri. That became the turning point. “The business became big to the extent that we barely had free time to rest. Traders came from different states to buy garri in large quantities from us,” Mrs Ebit said.

The Vice-Chairman of Odukpani Local Government Area Mr. Aniofiok Inyang who visited the area on Wednesday confirmed to journalists that three persons were reportedly killed. He said: “Two from among Okoyong community and one among the Ikot Offiong people.” He disclosed that the clash was between the Ikot Offiong people who went to settle in Ubambat, one of the villages within the Okoyong Community and they are now fighting the people of Okoyong.
