In 1919, after World War I, the U.S. government lifted a ban on civilian radio ownership and transmission, and it wasn't long before commercial radio became a favorite source of entertainment.
The first baseball game to be broadcast on the radio was one between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies on August 5, 1921.

Mr. Edward (Ed) Eugene Yoder, 89, of Valley View Retirement Community, formerly of Bratton Township, Mifflin County, passed unexpectedly from this earth and into the loving arms of Jesus on the morning of his 89th birthday on Dec. 21, 2020.
Ed was born on Dec. 21, 1931 in Bratton Township, to the late, Mr. Theodore G. Yoder and Salina A. (Hertzler) Yoder.
Also referred to as “Sonny” by his parents, neighbors and friends, he was the widower of Myrna D. (Zeigler) Yoder who passed away in 2013. The couple was married on March 22, 1958 and was blessed to spend 55 years of marriage before Myrna’s passing. Ed is survived by a brother, Robert Yoder and wife Patricia of State College, PA. He is also survived by a son, Brian E. and daughter in law, Cindy Yoder of Lewistown, a daughter, Dana L. of Harrisburg and an adopted daughter, Xiomaris Soriano, of New York City, New York. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Shannon Yetter of Lewistown, Caleb Yoder of Bratton Township, and Joshua Yoder of Belleville, two great grandchildren, Kaden Yetter and Harlow Jade Stroup.
