Transportation reporter, adam tuss, joins us live from fairfax tonight with more on the danger and what vdot plans to do about it. Adam . Reporter hey, jim. Virginia is now the first state in the entire country to say that it will replace detective guard rails. Take a look here on route 50 in fairfax. Of course, we drive past these kinds of guard rails on a daily basis. Dont think twice about them. But there could be a real danger with the design. This has to be part of the game plan going forward. You cant have people in front of 45 judges behaving like it is their first trip in the court. We have to consolidate so judges can make informed decisions about Everything Associated with those things. I have no problem at all. It would be a good idea to have a review that takes place every 10 years or so. Not only should there be a review, they should be reupped by Governors Council or whomever. Should be another vote . I guess what i would say is you can either have a process where they have to be reupped or the review would determine whether or not they would go before the Governors Council. I like the letter better than the former. These are lifetime appointments. We want to make good decisions. That is why we set them up. But they ought to be held acco ....
The leaders getting the universities back in line i think it could be as simple as that. We ink it is important when talk about paying athletes as we have, when many of my colleagues and dear friends in the media say lets do salaries and unionize, lets picture that, visualize what this looks ike. If we see an offensive lineman at tennessee and says, ah, i think ill take the better offer in alabama. Then oh, for the final game of the season im going to go to owa and play for a game. We want that idea . If you stop and take a look at what that would look like, i think everyone would agree we dont want that. And so an intelligent approach, a look into the future and picture it exactly as we think it could be at it worst or best whatever your point of view is and then come back to reality. Last thought, smart, intelligent people can decide what to do with stipends, what to do with Health Insurance moving forward. This is not rocket ....
Adding more money for the agency. A federal judge said the primary problem is a budgetary shortfall more than anything else. My question is do you think you can fix it without adding more money . I actually supported the governors proposal, 30 million increase for dcf. Both for social workers, and for a variety of other pieces. I think there are management reforms that ought to be part of what happens there. I may proposals when the german oliver case broke earlier this year. In many respects dcf has a difficult and complicated job. They are dealing with some of the most troubled families in the commonwealth. The fact that they had an opportunity to move toward fixing this for years ago when childrens rights filed that case, which was a compelling case against the department, and the attorney general and governor chose not to move to fix it but to fight it, was a problem and borne out by what happened after. In addition to that, ive said this before, you have a terrific record with res ....
Looking at segregation between School Districts in long island and this and that between these issues but the reason i wrote it is i go out to the Public Schools when i was in second grade in the inner city in the housing projects in the poor neighborhoods in the city so it was something i had thought about actively since i was a little kid and so when it came into the Supreme Court i was interested in following that host talking about the personal pieces i like to ask people their personal connection in the story when we get into the meat of it did you have a particularly stance on bus segregation . Guest i think they dont think about it and looking back to when i was looking at the reaction from the kids in the 70s when they started busting a lot of the kids would say i like it at this school. They didnt think about i ....
