Amid the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, India has started the third phase of its vaccination drive across the country. Since this is a new disease and the vaccine to prevent it has been made in a record time, people have their own hesitations and doubts about it.
As of now, the Indian government had given nod to two vaccines - AstraZeneca's Covishield and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin. Only recently Russian Sputnik V vaccine has received clearance in India.

The Gap Between Two Vaccine Doses Increased in India, Shortage The Reason?

The Gap Between Two Vaccine Doses Increased in India, Shortage The Reason?
May 14, 2021, 11:24 IST
The Central government on Thursday decided to extend the gap between the two doses of the Covishield vaccine from 6-8 weeks to 12-6 weeks.
Meanwhile, the gap between Covaxin doses remains unchanged. As the gap between two doses of Covaxin remains 28-42 days.
The government said in its statement that based on available real-life evidence, particularly from the United Kingdom, the COVID-19 Working Group has agreed to increase the dosing interval between two doses of Covishield to 12-16 weeks. No change in intervals for Covaxin was recommended.

The National Immunization Technical Advisory Group has suggested that the gap between two doses of the Covishield vaccine can be increased to 12-16 weeks. However, the government panel did not recommend any changes in dosage interval for Covaxin, the second of two vaccines in use in India.
The Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech's indigenously developed Covaxin and Oxford-AstraZeneca's Covishield are currently being used in India's inoculation drive against the COVID-19 virus.
