Flooding was threatening enough that Panama City Fire Department responded to a half dozen calls for home rescue Wednesday. In one case, firefighters used rescue baskets to float out a couple of elderly individuals who called for help after waters began flooding their home on Chestnut Avenue and 19th Street.
PANAMA CITY — Brad Monroe, chief of Bay County Emergency Services, says area first responders have received much community support during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Still, getting an extra $1,000 is nice too.

incredible. it makes you wonder where do you start in the process of picking up the pieces and rebuilding. keep in mind first responders, they're just still trying to account for the safety of people. i've got one of them with me. david collier is a battalion chief with the panama city fire department. david, you know, i wonder, is it possible that there are still people trapped inside of their homes? >> it's highly possible. unfortunately, we're not able to gain access to all areas at this point. the quick task force teams from the state have done a quick rapid search of the area, have tried to clear homes the best we can but unfortunately we're probably still going to find people in the come weeks. >> obviously your main concern is those who are still alive but is your concern you may find those who have passed or the death toll may rise? >> absolutely, that's always a possibility. it was so catastrophic that possibility is there. >> i know one of the big concerns right now is spotty cell service, lack of communication. what is the message you want to get out? >> the biggest thing right now is try to keep -- try to stay
