If Georgia is picked to build Silicon Valley giant Apple's self-driving electric vehicles, it could mean lots of new jobs, a big boost to tax revenue and a burnishing of the state's reputation as a tech hub.

Peachtree Corners, Ga., is using artificial intelligence-powered surveillance camera technology at city hall to monitor for people not wearing masks or observing social distancing protocols.
The technology from Cawamo enables existing cameras to detect people’s positions and whether they’re wearing masks, and then alert city personnel through a web-based dashboard to those violating the guidelines -- without identifying them.
The video analysis solution combines AI with synchronized edge and cloud computing technology. The edge unit is installed on-site and runs the AI-based detection software, which synchronizes with the Cawamo cloud neural AI network. It can be installed on any camera and generates high-quality alerts with very few false positives, the company said.

Peachtree Corners unveils solar roadway and EV fast-charging plaza - Cities Today - Connecting the world's urban leaders

The solar roadway system should produce more than 1,300 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually
The City of Peachtree Corners in Gwinnett County, Georgia has launched a new solar roadway system which produces energy for an electric vehicle (EV) charging station at city hall.
Separately, the city has also revealed a new EV fast-charging plaza for up to 16 vehicles. The plaza is the inaugural project in Peachtree Corners’ new EV strategy, which could serve as a model for other cities.
The solar roadway is on a section of an autonomous vehicle test lane in the city’s Curiosity Lab real-world testing environment and has been provided through a partnership with The Ray, a non-profit proving ground in Atlanta.

Peachtree Corners – the nation’s first smart city environment powered by real-world infrastructure and next-generation connectivity – today unveiled the city’s new solar roadway system which produces energy for a solar-powered EV charging station located at city hall. The installation also marked the first road surface-powered solar panels to be activated in a United States city.
The solar roadway is located in a section of Technology Parkway’s autonomous vehicle test lane and was provided to the city through a partnership with The Ray, a nonprofit living laboratory and proving ground located along an 18-mile stretch of Interstate 85 spanning between LaGrange and the Georgia/Alabama state line.
