President-elect Joe Biden formally announced Thursday his intent to nominate former two-term Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm to serve in his Cabinet as energy secretary. As governor, her efforts to help the state s economy focused on advancing manufacturing and green energy. She pressed for a move away from oil and toward advanced vehicles and other sources of power, such as solar and wind. U.S. President-elect Joe Biden has picked Jennifer Granholm as his energy secretary nominee.
Granholm, who served as Michigan’s 47
th governor for two terms and was the first woman to lead the state, was previously elected to serve as the Attorney General of Michigan. The energy secretary nominee envisions clean energy investments and deployments that create millions of good union jobs and support a stronger, more inclusive middle class, according to the incoming administration’s website.
Granholm is the founder of the American Jobs Project, which is described as a multi-state, multi-university initiative promoting technological advancements and clean energy policies to spur U.S. job creation. She has also helped drive clean energy policy nationwide as an advisor to the Pew Charitable Trusts’ Clean Energy Program and as a professor at the University of California’s Goldman School of Public Policy. ....

WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - President-elect Joe Biden, breaking the tradition of forming Whites-dominated Cabinet, nominated a Native American to serve as his Interior Secretary.
As Secretary of the Interior, Congresswoman Deb Haaland will be in charge of leading the agency governing public lands. If confirmed, the sexagenarian will become the first indigenous person to lead the department.
Jennifer Granholm, former Governor of Michigan, was nominated as Secretary of Energy.

Who is Jennifer Granholm, Biden's reported Energy Secretary nominee?


A Harvard University lawyer, Granholm was the youngest person to serve as Corporation Counsel for Wayne County before becoming the first female Attorney General of Michigan and then the first female Governor of Michigan. During her two terms in office, Granholm sought to steer the state known for automotive manufacturing towards alternative energy and helped pave the way for 85,000 jobs created by 40 clean energy companies last year, according to her official biography. Her website also touts an executive directive requiring the development of a statewide environmental justice plan.
