Former Democratic U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell announced Tuesday she will seek the nomination to challenge Republican Sen. Rick Scott in 2024, a campaign that will be a test to see if Florida Democrats can fare better during a presidential election in a state that has become increasingly Republican.
“I don’t make any assumptions or underestimate how difficult it is going to be,” she says of her challenge to Rick Scott.
Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, a former Democratic congresswoman from Florida, announced that she plans to challenge Sen. Rick Scott in the 2024 election.
In a campaign video posted Tuesday titled "Do Something About It," Mucarsel-Powell, 52, cast Scott as someone who would support a national abortion plan.
On limits to abortion and cuts to Social Security, "No mas," said Mucarsel-Powell. "I've already fought guys like Rick Scott and beat them."
