Memorial Day observations expected to be held across Northwest Missouri on May 31, 2021.

Some of the ceremonies, observances and parades normally associated with Memorial Day could not be scheduled because of continued COVID-19 fears or restrictions that continued well into the spring, when plans were being made, but there are many ways to commemorate the holiday in Carroll County.

Larry Lynch was 13 years old when he watched the sky turn red over his family’s Bedford County farm. It was June 22, 1950, and it had rained that day. By late evening, it was hot and muggy, and he was sitting out in his yard after chores with his father and a neighbor, trying to escape the summer heat.
