Police have laid fresh charges against a man accused of operating a sexual slavery ring in Brisbane.
Detectives allege he drugged and held women as young as 17 for prostitution, in what police described as "horrendous" example of modern-day slavery.
He is also accused of tattooing the women as his property and controlling their living, financial and work conditions.
Nine alleged victims have now come forward to police after a public appeal.

prostitution charges involving minors in florida and then eventually would be prosecuted, indicted here in new york city on sex trafficking charges and when asked about it last week, president trump said he was not a fan of jeffrey epstein and there had been a falling out. we have tried to pursue what that falling out was and we haven't gotten any answers from the white house. >> the bail hearing, though, on this which sets up tomorrow was fascinating. epstein's # $7 million town has in manhattan, there was a locked safe containing what prosecutors said was piles of cash, some diamonds, an expired passport dating back in the 1980s featuring a different name and a different country. what do we know about that. >> well, it was one of the most interesting moments in that bail hearing from monday. everyone raised an eyebrow, what was this all about. we didn't know what country it was from and we didn't know why he would have had it. the federal prosecutors

>> secretary, just one more question. >> doug christian from talk media news. >> yes. >> you said that the victims were not prostitutes, but the agreement was he was jailed for prostitution charges, not for sex trafficking. can you just state what the distinction was? >> the agreement was this was a state -- here's why this is hard. this was a state case. he was arraigned. a state grand jury returned a prostitution charge against him, a solicitation charge, if i recall. that was a state grand jury. he was allowed to surrender by the state attorney's office. as a result of that single charge that would have resulted in no jail time. ultimately what the agreement did was say you have to go back and you have to plea to a more

the president is privately expressing confident in acosta. they also say that confidence could disappear with more negative news conference. what is this all about? he's the one who negotiated the sweetheart plea deal for jeffrey epstein, a multimillionaire in 2008 who was accused of sex trafficking and child sex abuse, many instances of it. instead, all he had to do was plead guilty to two prostitution charges. he was sent to jail, where he was allowed to leave six days a week to go to work. unheard of. also, immunity for others around him in all of this. now he is facing new sex trafficking charges. let's go to abby philip at the white house with more. has something fundamentally changed here? >> well, poppy, that's what we will find out soon. but the pressure is clearly building on the white house and on alex acosta to do something. we're learning that around 2:30 this afternoon, he's expected to make some kind of statement about this whole situation.

statements, remains supportive of acosta. hallie. >> kelly o'donnell, busy morning at the white house for you. let me bring in 2020 presidential candidate senator michael bennet of colorado. i know you have to hustle tout votes. i want your reaction to the news that secretary acosta will speak on camera today. is there anything that he could say that would change your mind on the resignation that you called for him? >> i think that is highly unlikely. the reason we are where we are today is because of incredible reporting by the "miami herald". it sounds to me like if sex acosta had been as diligent as the "miami herald" has been in reaching out to victims, they would never have settle the case the way they did. by the way, the terms of that original settlement allowed epstein to plead guilty to some prostitution charges, which in this a way so completely ignoring the fact that what was

serious questions about what happened. the outrageous thing about this, the deal was illegal because they didn't tell the victims. it was secret, they hid it from the victims, it was the cushiest deal ever. when alex acosta cut a deal allowing epstein to plead guilty to prostitution charges, these girls were not prostitutes. they were human trafficking victims and basically allowing him to plead guilty to a prostitution charge was like revictimizing, some of these girls were 14-year-old middle schoolers, when epstein was preying upon them, and acosta letting him plead to a prostitution charge is like pouring salt in the wounds that these young ladies experienced at the time. it looks like they may finally get justice, thank god. >> i wanted to clarify, i made it sound like it was acosta, it's epstein who's the accused sex trafficker. it was acosta who gave him the sweetheart deal. do you see movement from the republicans down the road. do you think there will be enough pressure on the white house that he has to resign?
