to you about is a kind of quantification that emerges over the course of this former report, of the sheer implacability of the efforts to do this. i think even at the time in realtime, we all saw it play out. we saw the president sweep by, we saw his tweets, we saw his speaking appearances afterwards, there was this really persistent sense, and i think it endured even afterwards, that this was essentially a temper tantrum, that this was someone who was unable to, you know, grapple with the fact that he was a loser, that he had lost this election, and was, you know, in his kind of classically unregulated way, acting out. and i think that is a really important misperception that is corrected by the committee's report. the committee reports, at least 200 attempts by trump and allies to pressure states overturn results. 68 -- attempted are connected phone calls or text messages, each aimed at one or more state or local officials. 18 instances of --

it is interesting because the democrat pushed back, obviously, the republican pushback it is hard when you are trying to paraphrase everybody. but the pushback is that, you know, democrats don't want to list a number and they don't want to associate a time frame. >> john: they don't want to say 2024, no restrictions. >> gillian: this is a toe in the water for the republicans to coalesce. >> i think lindsey graham's plan that 15 weeks at least gives republicans to say to democrats, would you support this and where's your number, where's your line? to force them to give articulation where there places. they tried to pass quantification of roe v. wade. it didn't pass but republican said, there were no limits. it is basically saying up to nine months, there are no limits when you can stop abortion. so lindsay, this measure is supposed to be a counter to that, but this is an issue republicans don't want to talk about it. the more they talk about it the better it is for democrats.
numbers that are unquantifiable, frankly because facebook is a black box saying they're taking down millions of antivaccine posts a day and all this stuff. that's true, that's true. but we don't know the actual true percentage of that, these groups we talk about where they use code words that's never in that quantification. so both of these sides kind of have a point here, facebook we're trying. there are much worse places on the internet which this stuff is more pervasive. that's correct but they are not doing everything they can do because they're worried about backlash and speech implications there. i would say the relationship is not great here, but it has not been wonderful to start. so this is just another example of that. >> it's bad information, these conspiracy theories are killing people. nbc's ben collins with more great reporting.
