According to numbers issued Tuesday afternoon by the Orange County Health Care Agency, the daily case count per 100,000 students has dropped to 2.4, but that’s not enough to move into the yellow tier, so we are still in the slightly more restrictive orange tier. Counties that reach the yellow tier have brighter economic prospects, as more businesses and venues — among them gyms, movie theaters, stadiums, museums and amusement parks — are allowed to operate at a higher capacity than previously.
Print Huntington Beach religious leaders and congregants of different faiths will gather virtually on Thursday to reflect on human dignity during troubled times in a prayer breakfast themed, “United in Prayer: A Time of Renewal.” Hosted by the Greater Huntington Beach Interfaith Council, the event will be feature live and prerecorded prayers from six denominations and will culminate in a keynote address by Gail J. Stearns, dean of Chapman University’s Wallace All Faiths Chapel and associate professor of religious studies. Stearns will speak on the importance of becoming “maladjusted,” of pushing past comfort zones and learned norms to forge interpersonal connections across nations, religions and backgrounds.

Although some of the students were people who were born Jewish and wanted to learn more, there were a large number of prospective converts taking it as well. At the time, conversion was a delicate topic, and many were wary about welcoming converts. However, Einstein persisted and taught the class to thousands of students and mentored hundreds of converts for the next 41 years. Now, the Sandra Caplan Community Beit Din, where Einstein serves as a member, is celebrating him at their 2021 gala, taking place over Zoom on Sunday, March 7. “It’s a really nice honor,” Einstein said in a phone interview with the Journal. “A lot of people are going to be part of this. I’m very much looking forward to it.”
