Jonathan Cain: 'Prince called me to check I was OK with Purple Rain'

Journey star Neal Schon s cover of Prince s Purple Rain for his new solo album, Universe, was a full-circle moment for the guitarist, as the late music icon s anthem was inspired by the band s song Faithfully.
Schon s bandmate Jonathan Cain reminisced about the moment Prince reached out to him back in 1984 and playing Purple Rain, admitting the chord changes resembled those on Faithfully - and he didn t want the rockers to sue him.
(Prince) said, I want to play something for you, and I want you to check it out , Cain told Billboard.
I thought it was an amazing tune, he recollected. ....

Original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley has shot down rumours suggesting he ll be rejoining his former bandmates for their New Year s Eve concert in the United Arab Emirates.
Paul Stanley and company are currently preparing for the gig in Dubai after flying out to the Middle East over the weekend, but Frehley wants his fans to be clear he won t be on stage with them.
A statement posted on his Facebook page on Tuesday read: Contrary to online statements, Ace Frehley was not asked to and will not be appearing with KISS at their New Year s Eve concert in Dubai. Ace is currently in Nashville, TN recording his new studio album of all original material. Ace wishes all of his fans a happy and prosperous New Year! ....

Patti Smith's New Year's Eve show to air on billboards above London's Piccadilly Circus

Patti Smith will ring in 2021 in style from high above London’s Piccadilly Circus.
The punk icon s New Year s Eve show, streaming around the world on YouTube s digital art platform Circa, will be beamed onto billboards in the heart of London.
During the 15-minute showcase, Smith plans to pay tribute to healthcare workers who have lost their lives due to Covid-19 in 2020, and she will also read a new poem dedicated to teenage environmental campaigner Greta Thunberg.
Some of the work (for the show) I did in my bedroom, some in a recording studio and some at my desk, Patti tells The Guardian. I had to teach myself how to use Photo Booth on my computer and film myself reading a poem. I’m sure there are 14 year olds who can do this in five minutes but it took me quite a while. Master P in talks to take over Reebok

Rap mogul Master P and former basketball player Baron Davis are in talks to buy sportswear company Reebok for $2.4 billion.
The pair has entered into negotiations with parent company Adidas to acquire the brand, according to Forbes.
Adidas executives purchased Reebok for $3.8 billion in 2005, but they haven t had the success they had hoped for.
Master P, real name Percy Robert Miller, has confirmed the news to ESPN, stating: These companies have been benefiting off us, this could be history for this company going black-owned.
Imagine if Michael Jordan owned Reebok? That’s what I’m talking about making history. As we focus on turning Reebok into a lifestyle brand not just a basketball brand, our most important initiative will be to put money back into the community that built this company, the rapper and producer added. ....
