as we're now 36 hours from these votes being cast all across the state of iowa, trump is winning a majority of this vote, and ron desantis is far behind, about 29 points behind among evangelicals. it's a remarkable turn-around from when trump first burst on the scene when he rode that escalator. rachel: so, ralph, that should's very interesting because, you know, when you look at liberals, first of all, have always been perplexed by the fact that donald trump has appealed to evangelicals at all. but it makes sense that in 2016 they went with ted cruz who's a very devout van jibbing himself. -- evangelical himself. how do you explain this shift from, you know, 2016 to this time where trump is so overwhelmingly getting the support of evangelicals? >> you know, i think it's really two things. the first is he's effectively running as a quasi-incumbent,

of the other candidates have done anything wrong, for sure. >> on the question of enthusiasm, ralph, i've got to ask you about how the weather might impact turnout. are you predicting that iowans will brave those potentially sub-zero, negative 30-degree temperatures come monday? >> well, it depends on exactly what the weather is like from a precipitation standpoint. if it is just cold, you know, if you've lived in iowa for more than six months, cold weather is nothing you. even cold snaps that give you a day or two or three of sub-zero temperatures is not that big of a surprise. but if the wind is blowing 40 miles an hour and the snow is falling sideways, that could be a problem. but without -- with that as the caveat, there were 190,000 votes cast in the caucuses in 2016. the last time it was contested
