There were some concerns from the white house that he was not loyal enough, was not telling the president what he wanted to hear and was not helping him. One of the friction points was the issue of the lafayette square, the Infamous Press appearance where the president walked out of the white house after protesters had been cleared out imposed at the church across the street.
