Ronnie Three-Sticks Makes it Official

Or Ronnie Three-Sticks. Or RG3. We here at Rock M like both of these nicknames, so we’ll allow either of them going forward.
Ronnie made it official on Thursday afternoon, and joins the four-man transfer class — and five man freshman class — for the 21-22 season. While at UMASS, he started 14 of 15 games as a freshman in their COVID-shortened season, and averaged 27.4 minutes per game. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 8.7 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting 54.3 percent from the field and 37 percent from beyond the arc. Prior to entering the portal, RG3 was likely set to be UMass’ leading returning rebounder in 2021-22 prior to entering the transfer portal.

Jenna Laird Named to NFCA Freshman of the Year Top 30 List

In case you didn’t know.
On Thursday, it was announced that shortstop Jenna Laird, who ranks 2nd in the SEC in batting average at .433 (and leads all freshmen), was named a finalist — one of 30 — for the NFCA Division I Freshman of the Year. Since COVID knocked out last season, any player who was a freshman in 2020 or 2021 is eligible for the award.

Mizzou Softball Continues its Ascent
After a successful series win against Top 10 Arkansas, Mizzou continues to move up in the national polls, this time climbing four spots to No. 15 in the USA Today/NFCA poll and the USA Softball poll, and even higher in a few others!

Eric Blum took a look at Mizzou’s elevated profile in his new piece for the Columbia Tribune, revealing that, among other things, the Tigers have never given away the opening game of an SEC series. That’s a pretty cool stat, actually. No matter how many opening SEC games the Tigers have trailed in, and there have been several, they’ve always come back and won.

Wow... our hoops teams move stealthily in recruiting, huh? Seemingly out of nowhere, Robin Pingeton has signed a new player, Skylah Travis. Travis is a 6-foot-3 athletic post who has four years of eligibility remaining— she was injured last season and did not play a game for the Monarchs.

MUTigers.com’s press release highlighted a number of things about the new post player, including this tidbit:
Travis earned District 1 Player of the Year and North Carolina All-State honors in 2019-20 after leading Weldon High School to the Class 1A championship game while averaging 20.7 points, 10.6 rebounds, 5.1 steals, 3.9 blocks and 4.9 assists per game. Travis lifted her team to the state championship game after sinking a game-winner in the semifinals to beat Bishop McGuinness. As a junior in 2018-19, Travis led Weldon to the State Tournament while averaging 17.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.
