To remove the massive wreckage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, state and federal authorities have brought in an elite group of contractors, ranging from a construction firm in Stockholm, salvage firms from Florida and New Jersey and a disaster management firm from Houston.
Remains of two construction workers are still missing and strategies to refloat the container ship that hit the bridge have proven more complex than initially thought.
The first major piece of equipment capable of beginning to clear the blocked Port of Baltimore, Maryland, is expected to arrive onsite tonight.
The company that will oversee the removal of the ship that struck and collapsed the Francis Scott Key Bridge has prior experience in the Baltimore harbor.
US Transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg said today he is unable to provide a timetable as to when the Port of Baltimore will fully reopen.
