Hours ago. Firefighters had a chance to go into some of the damage from the fire in santa cruz and san mateo counties yesterday. They have confirmed 440 buildings have been destroyed, including 320 homes. On the northern end of the fire in San Mateo County, it is not spreading. That is good news. Firefighters say they are very confident that the fire will not spread toward Santa Clara County, where evacuation warnings had been issued earlier in the week.
