Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome provost strom. [applause] good evening. It is my very great pleasure to welcome you to Memorial Church for this years lecture on a Meaningful Life. Honored we are deeply to have as our speaker associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United StatesRuth Bader Ginsburg. [cheers and applause] this event, as you may know, has a rich history at stanford. Lecture that in a inry rathbun, a professor the 1930s through the 1950s, decided to give on the last day of his class one spring. The lecture was such a success that it turned into an annual tradition at stanford for many years until professor rathbun retired. It was revised in 2008, supported by a generous gift to the ....

I tried to entertain Justice Ginsburg for a few moments before we came over here, telling herr stories of my adventures and misadventures in american politics, back when we viewed each other as threedimensional human beings and not cartoons. [applause] as is fairly had notwn now, i actually met Justice Ginsburg until that memorable sunday evening in 1993 when she came to see me the white house. I had already interviewed two other people and it immediately leaked to the press. I had a lot of young aides who work hard and were good people but if a reporter called them, they were more afraid to say i dont know than anything else, so i got a big kick out of it. I sneaked who is now one of the most famous people in the world into the white house and nobody knew. [laughter] had beenon i president for less than a year, ....

We have been so fortunate the last two years, the second year in a row to be joined by the legendary Justice Ruth Bader ginsburg. [applause] a long introduction is not necessary. Your storiesss in you will read and discuss the many powerful and Supreme Court decisions as well as the influential dissent. He will also learned that she occupies a rare late in history. Marshallice thurgood Justice Ginsburg will be a historic figure as an advocate for ....
