Print The California Highway Patrol’s investigation into the Nov. 24 fatal collision that killed Logan Krapf of Ramona concluded the 14-year-old skateboarder was primarily responsible and the driver secondarily at fault in causing the accident. CHP Officer Travis Garrow said Monday that the Highway Patrol did not recommend prosecution of the driver, identified as Ramona resident Joseph Van Heertum, 20. “No criminal charges are being filed from what I can see at this time,” said Garrow about the CHP investigation, which was completed last month. The CHP reported that Logan was struck by a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck as it was heading east in the 24000 block of Barona Mesa Road. As the driver went around a left curve, he encountered three teenage boys — two on skateboards and one on a bicycle — who were also traveling east on the same road, officials said.

RAMONA — A fire early Tuesday caused extensive damage to a Ramona home, destroyed a trio of vehicles and displaced three adults and a child, a fire official said. The blaze, which caused about $500,000 worth of damage, was reported shortly after 12:30 a.m. at the home on Abalar Way near Daza Drive in the San Diego Country Estates area, Cal Fire Capt. Thomas Shoots said. When firefighters arrived they found heavy smoke and fire showing at the home. Shoots said the flames tore through about 75 percent of the structure, which he described as having “pretty major” damage, including in the kitchen, garage and attic.
