SAN DIEGO (KGTV) Despite the arrival of the new Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, San Diego County’s weekly allotment of doses fell short of expectations.
County health officials had hoped the single-dose vaccine would swiftly boost the region’s overall supply.
Instead, the county expects to receive nearly 50,000 doses of the three authorized vaccines this week. That’s roughly the same total San Diego County received last week when it only had access to the Pfizer and Moderna jabs, according to county spokesman Michael Workman.

Might Your Vaccinator Have COVID?

In California s San Diego County, a health department spokesperson assured
MedPage Today in an email, All vaccinators are required to have received the vaccination prior to administering vaccines.
But the reality on the ground appears quite different.
Sherry Franklin, MD, former president of the county medical society and a retired pediatric endocrinologist, said no one ever asked her if she had received her shots when she applied to be a vaccinator for the county health department. When she showed up for her first shift on Jan. 24, no one offered it to her then either. Luckily, she d managed to get her first shot through her connections a week earlier, but had no appointment for her second shot.

COVID-19 Vaccine Information for Press and Media | UC San Diego Health

UC San Diego Health currently administers the COVID-19 vaccines that have received emergency use authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA): those produced by Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.
Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are based on new messenger RNA (mRNA) technology.  These vaccines provide cells with instructions to produce a harmless piece of the virus characteristic spike protein. The human immune system recognizes the spike protein as foreign and builds an immune response against it. Later, if vaccinated persons are exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, their immune systems are already prepared to help prevent infection and illness.
