hope of rough weather would break today dashed and none of the divers in the search zone were deployed. cnn's anna coren is live for us in surabaya. anna what is the latest? >> reporter: john there were such high hopes when the day began that they could get in the water. some 97 divers ready to continue the search. a couple got in and checked visibility. it was terrible. they got back out. they are on stand by. we are waiting for word if they managed to get back in this afternoon. as you say, we are in the middle of monsoon season. the weather is bad. the seas are high. this is something that is really hampering the search process. there are four main objects they located by sonar. another object located late last night. the speculation it could be the tail of the aircraft but really it is mere speculation. we know that the black boxes are in the tail but we cannot confirm whether that wreckage
the flight and harder it will be to identify bodies found. hope that rough weather would break today was dashed. more than 100 divers in the search zone have not been deployed. we have our cnn correspondent anna coren in surabaya with more. >> reporter: that is right, christine. there were high hopes the weather would clear and good conditions today because the waves are not as high but that did not prove to be the case. two divers got in the water to see what it was like. visibility was zero. they came back up and instead, at least 97 divers who are now on stand by. we are waiting to hear whether or not they managed to get into the water late this afternoon. from all accounts. the weather has closed in. storms have come into the area and there are vessels out there. there are planes flying and searching for the wreckage.
about to fly right into. cnn aviation correspondent rene marsh has the latest details. >> cnn is told that this is the weather report that the pilots did not pick up themselves. cnn is told that airasia staff did not pick up this report with the details about the weather conditions at all of the airports along their flight path including storm clouds that stretch up as high as 48,000 feet. now, that revelation has sparked policy change at airasia and indonesia's overall aviation system. new video from one of the two american ships searching for airasia flight 8501. they're among more than 40 vessels, 20 helicopters and 97 divers deployed to the search zone. >> translator: the "uss fort worth" detected sonar of two metal objects but we still need to confirm if this is part of the plane. >> reporter: one object about 56 feet long, the other, 14 feet.
that lab, if people cannot be positively identified in the search zone, those remains will be brought here. families over the last ten days have been giving dna samples. the other one, the critical one will be looking at the wreckage, which will be reassembled once it's all recovered here in a russian hangar. what happened to the plane, was there pressure malfunction? how was the experience on the plane? what kind of force was experienced on the plane? a and, of course, anderson, the final moments in the cockpit, voice recorders telling people, the investigators here, why there was no distres call. the other being what happened with the data, the data recorder, telling us about the final moments aboard that plane. anderson? >> kyungh, there are questions whether the airplane had
none of the nearly 100 divers in the search zone deployed today. cnn's anna coren live in surabaya with the latest. >> reporter: john, as you say, frustrating times for those involved in the search and recovery operation there. yet to get to any of that debris that they believe is the wreckage of the plane. to retrieve any of it. four objects have been spotted using sonar. a fifth object spotted late yesterday. it was thought it was the tail of the plane. that has now been ruled out by officials. for those that are part of the operation, they just cannot get in the water. the divers you mentioned, 97 divers. they did not get into the water today. the reason being is the poor visibility. it is literally zero visibility at the bottom. it is also described as dangerous conditions. that is what we are hearing from the head of the army who flew
but dangerous weather conditions monsoon rains, muddy water and poor visibility are making the urgent search in the java sea extremely difficult. divers weren't deployed tuesday because the underwaerpt current is still strong and visibility remains limited. almost 100 divers are in the search zone and 15 more on standby to enter the water as weather permits. 20 helicopters and more than 40 ships remain focused on the area where it's believed the commercial jet is located. three seats from the flight were recovered on tuesday. a flight safety card and emergency equipment were also found. but the search continues for the downed plane's wreckage and the black boxes containing the flight date and voice recorders. indonesian officials believe icing may have contributed to the crash but they won't have answers until the black boxes are recovered. time is running out before the pinging noise from those boxes fade away. so far, no pings have been detected. there has been progress finding
