It has been a year of baby and calf-raising for a Taieri Plains couple who are entering the upcoming combined South Otago, Tokomairiro & Otago-Taieri A&P societies' on-farm dairy heifer competition.
First-time entrants Lynne and Gregor Ramsay's stock skills will be put to the test in the competition, with the winners announced on April 9.
Lynne (31) is from Glasgow and from a dairying background. Gregor (35) from Biggar, South Lanarkshire, also grew up rurally.

They are showing up in fish stomachs and in beaches across the country, but how are oesophagus clips escaping the meatworks?
It starts with a very puzzled fisherman in The Catlins.
"Wondered why the big kahawai I caught recently was so skinny ... until I checked the stomach contents and found it full of plastic," he posts on Facebook.

"I find those clips washed up on the beach all the time. If somebody knows what they're used for I'd be interested to know," he says.

He lived in Dunedin from 2011 until 2015 and had worked at Silver Fern Farms' Finegand freezing works while his wife Anna Sui studied towards a PhD at the University of Otago.
