Reply Jan. 17, 2021 The Connecticut State Police promoted two Troopers during a ceremony today at State Police Headquarters. James C. Rovella, Commissioner of the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, and Colonel Stavros Mellekas, Commanding Officer of the Connecticut State Police, formally promoted the Troopers in a socially-distanced manner. Subscribe Lieutenant Colonel Jay DelGrosso Subscribe Lieutenant Colonel DelGrosso was promoted from Major and has been assigned to command the Bureau of Professional Standards. He most recently was Chief of Staff to Commissioner James Rovella. A Trooper for 21 years, he previously served as Commanding Officer of the Eastern District Major Crime Squad, as Commanding Officer at Troop E in Montville, as Commander of the State Police Eastern District and as Lieutenant in the Bureau of Professional Standards. He has also been assigned as Trooper at Troop D in Danielson and to the Troop D Quality of Life Task Force, as well as Sergeant at Troop F in Westbrook. Lt. Col. DelGrosso has earned two Medals for Outstanding Service, three Unit Citation Awards and two awards from MADD. Before being sworn in as a Trooper, he served six years with the Stonington Police Department as a patrol officer, youth officer and detective. He holds a B.S. from Southern CT State University.
December 14, 2020 2749 WATERBURY – Mrs. Marilyn A. (Santopietro) Gerace, age 75, of Waterbury, and Kennebunkport, Maine, passed away on the day of her birth, Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020, at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She was the loving wife of Robert Gerace. Marilyn was born on Dec. 13, 1945, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Ralph and Lillian (Walsh) Santopietro. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, held a bachelor’s degree in English and Latin from Our Lady of Elms College, and obtained her master’s degree in reading from Southern CT State University. She taught in the Waterbury school system for over 20 years. She began her career at Sacred Heart High School where she taught English and Latin. After having children, Marilyn returned to her profession working part-time at Waterbury Adult Education. She went on to teach at Saint Mary’s School and then Wilby High School where she taught English and Latin and served as department chair until her retirement. She was a member of the Waterbury Teacher’s Association, CEA/NEA retired, Farmingbury Woman’s Golf Association, and the Goose Rocks Beach Association. A proud cancer survivor, Marilyn was a member and a supporter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
