One of Gaston County’s oldest annual festivals will make a triumphant return this weekend.   After taking a hiatus in 2020 at the hand of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bessemer City Parks and Recreation will host the Down Home Festival from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday. The festival draws up to 5,000 people to downtown Bessemer City each year, according to Bessemer City Parks and Recreation Director Jo-D Franklin.  Last year’s festival was the first to ever be canceled entirely, according to Franklin, though storms have briefly paused entertainment at ...
