Penn State Wilkes-Barre military award created to honor fallen soldier

A new $20,000 endowed award has been established at Penn State Wilkes-Barre in memory of a northeastern Pennsylvania man who was killed in action in Afghanistan. Family and friends of Pittston, Pennsylvania, native Jeffrey F. DePrimo created the 1st Lt Jeffrey F. DePrimo Military Award to support military students at Penn State Wilkes-Barre.

Last month, sustainability champions from all 24 of the Penn State campuses gathered by Zoom for the fourth Commonwealth Campus Sustainability Forums, an annual event hosted by the Sustainability Institute to bring campuses together to collaborate and to network on sustainability initiatives.

Film screening: "Moxie"  — Join the Gender Equity Center, in partnership with Penn State Libraries and Hillel at Penn State for a film screening and discussion of Netflix's "Moxie.”
Emma Johnson (actor Josephine Langford) inspired by her mom's (actor Amy Poehler) rebellious past and a confident new friend publishes an anonymous zine calling out sexism at her school. We will discuss the main themes from the movie as well as discuss the history of grassroots activism by women for social and political change. Register here.

Practical Activism: Living Out Your Vocational Calling — the Paul Robeson Cultural enter is hosting an event with Minniejean Brown Trickey, one of the "Little Rock Nine" who fought during the civil rights era to push for desegregation of schools. She has since then continued to fight for equality across the country. We will specifically look to talk about finding one's vocational calling and how that can intersect with social justice work. "Being Black in Bridgerton: An Examination of Race, Colorism, and Stereotyping," hosted by the Gender Equity Center. The hit Netflix series "Bridgerton" has been praised for its casting of Black characters in the roles of English royals, nobles, aristocrats and tradespeople. However, when we examine the characters and their storylines, is such casting as progressive as it seems on the surface? Join us for clips of the series and a discussion of race, colorism and stereotyping, and the impact on the storylines of the people of color in the series.
