3 hours ago Share In addition to many sites available now, the Department of Health will offer vaccinations for 12 and up at Wadsworth Elementary School starting June 7. With the Centers for Disease Control now saying that vaccinated people can congregate indoors without masks, Flagler County health officials are touting the local vaccination efforts and make plans to vaccinate more children ages 12 and up. The CDC’s relaxing of restrictions reflects “a shift that the vaccinations are so effective that that’s your protection,” rather than the masks, Dr. Stephen Bickel, medical director for the Florida Department of Health-Flagler, said May 14 on WNZF’s “Free For All Friday.”

It’s worth the selfie. (Gretchen Smith/Health Department) Note: In anticipation of stormy weather this weekend, the Flagler Health Department is postponing all second dose Covid-19 appointments for Monday, April 19. The health department’s call center is contacting everyone scheduled with options to rebook their appointments. These options include Saturday, April 24 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Palm Coast, Monday, April 26 at the Flagler County Fairgrounds, and Tuesday, April 27 at the Flagler County Fairgrounds. For more information, please call 386-437-7350 ext. O. For the first time since the December rollout of vaccines in the country and in Flagler, supply is exceeding demand as the county crosses the 40 percent threshold of those who have received at least one coronavirus vaccine and nears 80 percent for those 65 and over.
5 min ago Share A total of 47,357 Flagler County residents have been vaccinated, making up 41% of the county's residents and 77% of residents over the age of 65. Aiming to top the state's list of counties for the highest percentage of residents vaccinated, the Florida Department of Health in Flagler County is planning to shift into a new phase of its vaccination efforts. "Supply is now exceeding demand, so we are going be launching Phase 2," FDOH-Flagler Health Officer Bob Snyder said on Flagler Broadcasting's "Free For All Friday" program April 16. That will mean closing down the vaccination site at the county fairgrounds in coming weeks but tripling community vaccination sites, including ones at businesses for employees: Coastal Cloud will be among them, as well as a number of bars and restaurants, Snyder said. The health department also expects to soon offer vaccines appointment-free.
Trofim Lysenko, left, speaking at the Kremlin in 1935, with Joseph Stalin standing, right. (Wikimedia Commons) Trofim Lysenko was an agronomist who in the 1930s caught Stalin’s ear with a bogus theory: that grain seed could be conditioned to grow quicker and more abundantly in all sorts of climates, like growing bananas in New York and apples in the Arctic. Stalin loved it and made Lysenko’s theory law. He became the Soviet Union’s leading geneticist. He was flacked in honors, including three Stralin prizes and six Orders of Lenin prizes. The moment scientists began questioning his method and evidence, Stalin had them fired, exiled or shot. (It was the reverse in the United States: an Oregon State University professor was fired in February 1949 for supporting his theory, though no one was shot over it.)
