New public health order to reduce need for K-12 students to quarantine

The Daily Telegram
Schools in Lenawee County should see much less need to quarantine large numbers of students who are close contacts of people with COVID-19 after a new public health order was issued Tuesday.
Students will now only have to quarantine for 10 days if they live in the same household as someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or if they are a close contact of a case identified in an “outbreak” at their school. This new policy was developed by officials from the Lenawee County Health Department and all of the county superintendents. They met Monday to review the mandatory quarantine of students, and the health department issued the new order Tuesday.

TECUMSEH — Students, faculty and staff in Tecumseh are going to make another attempt at starting the school year a week before Labor Day.
Tecumseh, like all but two other districts in Lenawee County, is planning to start the 2021-22 school year on Aug. 30, Superintendent Rick Hilderley told the Tecumseh Board of Education at its meeting Monday. He said Addison and Sand Creek are planning to start Aug. 23.
Tecumseh and the other districts in the county received waivers last year from the Michigan Department of Education to start school up to two weeks before Labor Day. Michigan law requires districts to start classes after Labor Day, unless they obtain a waiver from the state.

Pickens Board of Education cuts ties with Townsend - Pickens

JASPER, Ga. – On February 23, The Pickens County Board of Education officially cut ties with former school Superintendent Rick Townsend.
In a meeting that lasted no more than six minutes, the school board went straight to business without a pledge or invocation.
Board Chair Sue Finley
Ultimately, the board voted 3-2 to terminate Townsend’s contract. Board Chair Sue Finley and Board Members Aaron Holland and Steve Smith voted in favor of the termination. Vice Chair Tommy Gartrell and Board Member Tucker Green both voted not to terminate.
Perhaps the evening’s biggest surprise was the lackluster crowd that barely made a dent in the room. The 4 p.m. start time didn’t help matters as the meeting either conflicted with work schedules or school athletic events were happening that night.

Covid Transmission In Schools
By Justin Honore | January 28, 2021 at 7:00 PM CST - Updated February 1 at 7:03 PM
TYLER, Texas (KLTV) -While many East Texas school districts went back to in-person learning in August, the Center for Disease Control released a new study on in-person learning for the country as a whole.
The study found that fewer COVID-19 cases were found in schools if proper precautions were put in place; precautions that many East Texas schools have followed since August.
Those precautions include masks being worn by all students, social distancing, quarantining after exposure, and putting students in smaller groups to limit exposure something. Gilmer ISD has made a concerted effort to do these things, according to Superintendent Rick Albritton.
