California updated county tier assignments on March 16, 2021.State of California
The California Department of Public Health updated county tier assignments Tuesday, and in the San Francisco Bay Area, San Mateo County is advancing from the red tier to the less restrictive orange tier, allowing many indoor activities, including dining, to increase indoor capacity.
This marks the first Bay Area county to move into the orange; all eight other counties are in the red.
Lake, Monterey, Riverside, Sacramento, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Sutter, Tehama, Tulare, Ventura and Yuba counties also advanced in the state's reopening framework Tuesday, jumping from the most-restrictive purple tier to red.

Vaccine appointments available today at Senior Coastsiders

Updated March 5: Appointments were available to get a COVID-19 vaccination on Thursday, March 4, at Senior Coastsiders for any San Mateo County residents 65 or older or those with canceled Sutter Health appointments. This is not an opportunity for those under 65 or who don't otherwise qualify by county guidelines.
Senior Coastsiders Executive Director Sandra Winter said 200 Moderna doses were ready to go into arms, but just around 35 people have signed up early in the day. The walk-up site is for any county resident 65 or older who is in need of their first vaccine, and will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at 925 Main Street in Half Moon Bay.

ABOUT IT. RUSS: ITS SCARY, ITS FRIGHTENING AND A POWERFUL DISEASE. STEPHANIE: YUBA AND SUTTER COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS, SENSITIVE TO THE DANGERS OF COVID-19 REASON WHY THEY SAY, THEY’RE TAKING STATE VACCINATION GUIDELINES ONE STEP FURTHER. RUSS: WE NEED TO LOOK AT THE MOST VULNERABLE AND SAY OK WE’RE GOING TO TAKE CARE OF YOU FIRST. STEPHANIE: RESTRICTING VACCINATIONS TO HEALTHCARE WORKERS AND THOSE 65 AND OLDER FOR NOW. RUSS: IT SIMPLIFIES IT AND QUICKLY ADDRESSES WHERE THE REAL RISK GET SOMEONE 65 AND OLDER, AND THEY GET IT, 10, 15 TIMES MORE LIKELY TO GET HOSPITALIZED. STEPHANIE: A DECISION, WITHOUT CONTROVERSY AS SURROUNDING COUNTIES MOVE FORWARD WITH VACCINATING PEOPLE BY PROFESSION, FROM POLICE TO FIREFIGHTERS TO TEACHERS. GALLAGHER: WE REALLY NEED A CONSISTENT MESSAGE, THAT PEOPLE KNOW THEY ARE ELIGIBLE. STEPHANIE: ASSEMBLYMAN JAMES GALLAGHER REPRESENTS YUBA AND SUTTER COUNTIES. GALLAGHER: THERE’S A LOT OF, ESPECIALLY TEACHERS AND EDUCATION STAFF, THEY REALLY WANT TO BE VACCINATED. OUR FARM WORKERS, THIS IS A VERY AGRICULTURAL AREA, THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING THROUGH THIS WHOLE PANDEMIC. STEPHANIE: BUT THE ASSEMBLYMAN ADDS, HIS ISSUE ISN’T WITH THE COUNTY. GALLAGHER: THE PROBLEM IS OTHER COUNTIES ARE DOING THINGS DIFFERENTLY, AND THAT CREATES AN INEQUITY. MY PROBLEM IS IT JUST NEEDS TO BE UNIFIED AT THE STATE LEVEL. THAT IT SHOULD BE THE SAME ACROSS THE BOARD, THAT IT SHOULDN’T MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE. STEPHANIE: RIGHT NOW COUNTY HEALTH OFFICERS CAN ESTABLISH DIFFERENT RESTRICTIONS FOR COVID VACCINATIONS AS LONG AS THE CHANGES ARE NOT LESS RESTRICTIVE THAN WHAT HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED BY THE STATE RUSS: WE DON’T WANT TO DISCOUNT PEOPLE IN OCCUPATIONS EITHER. BUT IF THEY ARE YOUNGER THEY ARE NOT AT MUCH AS RISK. STEPHANIE: COUNTY HEALTH OFFICIALS ADDING THAT NEARLY EIGHT OUT OF TEN LOCAL COVID DEATHS CAME FROM PEOPLE OVER 65. LOCAL COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH ADDS THE VACCINE REMAINS IN LIMITED SUPPLY AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC WILL LIKELY NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. REPORTING FROM MAR
