Grand Rapids Griffins coach Ben Simon likes what he has seen so far from defenseman Donovan Sebrango.
The Detroit Red Wings’ third-round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft has played in seven of Grand Rapids’ first eight games, and in the Griffins’ most recent contest at Rockford on March 3, Sebrango recorded his first career American Hockey League point. Sebrango had an assist on Tyler Spezia’s second-period goal, helping the Griffins post a 9-4 victory. ....

Humble as always, Gretzky was astonished to receive an invitation to Team Canada’s World Junior Hockey Championship training camp.
He believed he had no chance at making the team, but that the training camp experience would be invaluable to his development. Unexpectedly he received a spot on the team.
With Bill Delargo of the Brandon Wheat Kings breaking his leg a month earlier, a spot opened for the rookie Wayne Gretzky. Later, Team Canada’s planned first-line centre, Bobby Smith, suffered an eye injury and Gretzky found himself positioned as the country’s number one centre out of sheer luck. ....

Long before he was named “The Great One” for winning four Stanley Cups, scoring a record-breaking number of goals, tallying more assists than the total points of any other NHL player, and being considered the greatest hockey player of all-time, Wayne Gretzky was a Soo Greyhound.
At the 1977 Ontario Major Junior Hockey League Midget Draft on June 6, 1977, the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds selected 16-year-old Wayne Gretzky with the third overall pick. ....
