hundreds of millions in u.s. military aid in return for dirt on joe biden. it is a big night for the democratic candidate in kentucky. in the governors race there. let's get to john king. at the magic wall. good evening to you. again kentucky is our main event. what is the latest? >> the democratic attorney general besheer will go to bed believing he is the democratic governor elect of the state of kentucky. the republican bevin on the downside here. 5,600 votes behind. it's close. but 5,600 vote lead for the democratic. bevins says i won't concede tonight. we'll see what happens. everyone in the state seems to believe besheer comes out on top. how did he do it in a red state? run it up. we're seeing it in kentucky tonight. run it up in an urban area.
extrapolate and make it mean something in 2020. that's dangerous. if we do, you have to do the other side too. democrats had a good candidate. someone who had seemed competent, family name. and someone who seems to be a moderate. that matters as well. >> like he said, people keep saying bevin had issues because he's controversial and disliked there. does that sound like any other politician who will be on the ballot 2020. controversial and disliked? >> the difference between bevin and trump is trump won that state by 30 points. and bevin just lost. bevin was behind by ten points a few weeks ago. the fact he lost by a few thousand points shows that the -- votes. it the visit did help. he rallied the troops. it's not a good look for a president that won state in double digits to drag the state.
